Hey, I'm Patrick Wilson, AKA Pat, AKA GainsByPat
If you're taking the time to read about me, I appreciate you. Seriously, it means a lot.
Fitness Coach. Enjoyer of Travel, Red Wine, andddd Fun Foods.
Here to help you make progress (in a realistic way)!
Why I Started SimFlex Fitness Coaching
Picture this….
You REALLY want to get in shape. You want to lose fat, build muscle, be healthy, LOOK & FEEL amazing.
You also REALLY enjoy food, drinks, traveling, and spending time with family & friends.
BUT everywhere you look for tips & advice on how to lose fat & build muscle…
NO ONE is talking about how to do both of those.
All you see is:
You NEED to Meal prep EVERY MEAL (Unseasoned chicken & rice, of course)
“You should never go out to eat if you’re trying to get in shape”
2-3 hours of workouts & cardio every day
No sweets, snacks, orrrr any fun foods
Never talking about REAL LIFE
That’s exactly where I was about 10 years ago.
I KNEW there had to be a better, more enjoyable way to make progress AND STILL enjoy your life.
Despite every fitness magazine & “influencer” at the time NEVER talking about how to have balance…
On my own, I researched & figured out how losing fat & building muscle ACTUALLY works.
And I discovered that you CAN still travel, go out to eat, have some sweets, work in some drinks, and live your life WHILE STILL making progress.
THEN I tried it for myself.
I started focusing on the things that ACTUALLY matter to lose fat & build muscle. BUT I worked in sweets, fun foods, and experiences I didn’t want to skip out on.
And the results?
I made A TON of progress.
Here is a photo of me from 2015 (when I first learned how to realistically make progress)
I went from 228lbs to 175lbs.
I lost 50+ pounds while still having fast food, working in beers with friends, andddd even enjoying the holidays during this time (not being SUPER strict on these days).
I was shocked because NO ONE was talking about this stuff.
It felt like I discovered a cheat code. Like I opened the closet to Narnia. Like I just tried gelato for the first time lol
Seriously…
Everyone made fitness seem wayyyy too complicated and overwhelming.
I swear, it really felt like there were 49 different workout rules to follow, 57 different diets out there, and 252 different foods/drinks that you could NEVER have.
BUT when I learned how to make progress in a more simple & flexible way….
I really wanted to help people do the same.
Because you & I both know, not everyone is trying to be a bodybuilder.
Not everyone wants to live & breathe ONLY fitness.
You have your family, friends, work, travel, passions & hobbies.
Fitness should (and absolutely needs to) be a part of your life, BUT not your entire life.
That's why I started my fitness coaching business.
To help you make REAL progress without giving up every other amazing aspect of life.
You can ABSOLUTELY do both.
That’s what I’m here for!
I push you when needed (in a respectful, collaborative way).
One of the biggest reasons to hire me is to have support & accountability with your fitness goals.
The other big reason is to know when you need to make changes & push yourself more, to make the progress you want.
I do that BUT without talking down to you. We’re in this together.
I want YOU to succeed & be the best version of you.
You are capable of WAYYY more than you give yourself credit for.
Sometimes you will need a little bit of a push.
I let you know that AND go over WHAT to change, as well as where to push, in order to get results!
No judgment. No shame.
Life happens. AND life is tough at times.
You’re not always going to be ‘perfect’ with fitness.
I'm not the drill-sergeant type of coach yelling at you for having a cookie or for getting off track.
We're going to work in the fun foods.
We’re going to work through what you have going on in life.
We're going to be realistic.
And you're still going to make progress!
My Fitness Journey
I’ve been able to help people because I’ve been on almost every side of a fitness journey…
Growing up, I was the smallest guy on my basketball team.
I was 5’2” , 98lbs my freshmen year of high school.
I started getting into lifting to help make the team anddd fell in love with it.
Once I got to college, I kept lifting BUT along with gaining muscle, I started gaining a lottt of body (and got up to 228lbs).
That’s when I first figured out how to balance out the fun & experiences and still make progress (check out the transformation at the beginning of this page)!
Then, after I graduated college, I hit a rough patch where I was trying to figure out my life anddd ended up gaining a lot of weight again.
I got back up to 225lbs in 2017. BUT one of the first things I did to “figure out life”, gain confidence, and feel good about myself, was push myself with my fitness goals.
That year, I went from 225lbs to 170lbs and got in the best shape I had ever been in.
Making that progress (and gaining confidence) propelled me to get a good job in finance before eventually quitting & starting my fitness coaching business.
And since then, the last 7-8 years, it’s still an ongoing Journey
Something most fitness coaches won't tell you - it doesn't stay perfect forever.
I've had seasons where life got crazy (work, relationships, family, health issues)...
Anddd fitness took a momentary back seat.
In 2022, I was going through a lot (good & bad):
I had a really bad pinched nerve in my neck & could not work out for a month
I was going through a break up
AND I was the most busy with my business I had ever been.
I gained around 20lbs.
Finally, once again, I decided that if I get back on track with my fitness goals, things will likely improve.
That’s exactly what happened.
This is the progress I made:
More About Me (Non-Fitness)
I have lived all over!
I grew up in Ohio (Cincinnati and Columbus).
Then, in my mid/late 20’s, I spent 3 years living in Los Angeles (Hollywood & Downtown LA).
Anddd for the last 5 years, I’ve been living in South Florida (with some time living in Philadelphia & overseas as well).
I still go back to Ohio regularly & could see myself living there again to be close to family.
But I really do love to have new experiences & being in new environments.
There’s sooo much life out there!
Traveling (and trying new things) makes me happy
Growing up, each year for my birthday, my mom would take me on a trip to a new city every year instead of getting me a physical present.
That shaped how I see the world - experiences over things.
That’s where my love for food anddd seeing new things started.
That’s all part of why I approach fitness/fat loss the way I do.
I want everyone to experience a full, enjoyable life (and still be healthy while doing so)!
Here are my top 10 favorite places I’ve visited (this list was TOUGH to make & narrow down):
Rome, Italy
Arches National Park (Utah)
San Diego, California
New York City
Barcelona, Spain
Cabo, Mexico
Amalfi Coast, Italy
Miami (where I live now!)
Menton, France (SUPER underrated & semi-unknown)
Denver, Colorado (Rocky Mountain National Park & Colorado Springs, both close by, are amazing!)
Other random things about me:
Leg day is my favorite day. It pushes you mentally/physically more than any other day
I’m a big time Ohio sports fan (Buckeyes, Bengals, and Reds)
I still LOVE going back to Ohio to see all of my family (it feels like a mini vacation & makes my heart happy any time I’m there)!
I spend way too much time watching cat and dog videos on TikTok. No shame in my game lol
I had a cat growing up named Meow Meow Purr Purr Wilson (hahah don’t judge, I named her when I was 4)
I love all food BUT I could eat Chipotle 5 days per week lol. High protein, tasty, and can be lower calorie. Lettuce on the bottom, half scoop of white rice, half scoop of black beans, double chicken, fajita veggies, mild salsa, green salsa, light cheese. ELITE!
Cookie dough and Cookies & cream are my favorite flavors of ice cream
I'm a people person. I loooove my time to work & improve as a person. BUT I love talking to people. Hearing their stories, getting to know them, anddd helping them win. That’s a big part of why I love coaching!
And 2023 ended up being one of the best years of my life (life & business).
THAT is why I coach.
I know life is tough at times. AND I know fitness can be tough.
No matter where you’re at orrrr what you’re going through, I want to help you make progress & become the best version of you!
